Walnut, Calif. – In their first conference matchup of the season, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team edged out Cerritos College 2-1 on Tuesday, October 7. Following this victory, the Mounties improve to 4-2-3 overall and 1-0 in SCC play, while the Falcons drop to 6-4 and 0-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC got off to a hot start when Fabian Barajas found the back of the net off a pass from Rafael Avalos in the fifth minute to put the Mounties on the board. The Mounties doubled their lead minutes later, as Barajas turned provider, setting up Alfonso Ramirez for a 13th-minute goal that made it 2-0.
Cerritos responded in the 38th minute with a goal from Gustavo Arias, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, that would be the final scoreline as both defenses tightened up in the second half.
Goalkeeper Cody Lindeman was a key figure for the Mounties, coming up with five crucial saves to preserve the win.
The match was intense and physical, with both teams receiving four yellow cards apiece in a heated 90-minute battle.

The Mounties are back in action on Friday, October 10, when they hit the road to compete against Rio Hondo (2-7-1) for another conference matchup at 4:00 PM.
