Mission Viejo, Calif. – Following a tough loss to Santa Barbara last week, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team rebounded on Tuesday, defeating Saddleback 3-0 on the road. With this win, the Mounties improve to 3-2-3 on the season, while the Bobcats fall to 1-4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first half remained scoreless, but Mt. SAC controlled the tempo from the opening whistle. The Mounties outshot Saddleback 10-4 and held a clear advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.
But the Mounties ramped things up in the second half, firing 12 more shots as they asserted their dominance. Moises Prado broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, scoring off an assist from Julian Vazquez for his second goal of the season. Fabian Barajas added two unassisted goals — one in the 72nd minute and another in the 82nd — bringing his season tally to three and putting the game out of reach.
The Mounties finished with 22 shots to Saddleback's 6, while also earning 11 corner kicks to Saddleback's 3 — clear indicators of Mt. SAC's dominant performance in the attacking third.
Goalkeeper Edson Mendez held strong in goal for Mt. SAC, making two saves in the shutout effort. Saddleback split time between the posts, with Cam Caveney recording three saves and keeping a clean sheet in the first half. Andria Fanos entered after halftime, making four saves but allowing all three goals.
NEXT UP:
Mt. SAC returns to action on Tuesday, October 7, when they host Cerritos (5-3) in their first conference matchup of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM. With more than a week off, the Mounties have time to regroup and build momentum heading into league play.
