Early Lead Slips Away as Mt. SAC Falls to Vaqueros

Walnut, Calif. – The underwhelming season continues for the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team as they fell to Santa Barbara 2-1 on Friday, September 19. With the defeat, the Mounties drop to 2-2-3, while the Vaqueros improve to 2-3-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mounties got off to a good start when Moises Prado finished a well-placed pass from Alexis Gomez to give the Mounties an early 1-0 lead. However, the Vaqueros answered back in the 33rd minute with a goal from Gustavo Loera, leveling the match at 1-1 before halftime.

In the second half, Jesus Avila scored in the 60th minute to put Santa Barbara ahead 2-1—a lead they would hold for the remainder of the match. Despite Mt. SAC's efforts in the final half hour, they were unable to generate a late equalizer.

Goalkeeper Cody Lindeman recorded 3 saves to keep the Mounties within striking distance, but offensively Mt. SAC struggled to threaten the Vaquero goal, managing just one shot on target for the entire match.

The contest was physical throughout, with a total of six yellow cards issued—four to Santa Barbara and two to Mt. SAC.
