Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team claimed another victory, defeating Southwestern 74-69 on Wednesday, December 4. This win brings the Mounties to a 7-1 record, while the Jaguars dropped to 3-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Southwestern came out firing, opening the game with a 6-0 run fueled by back-to-back three-pointers from Derek Edmond and Jartavious Jackson. Mt. SAC quickly countered with free throws by Jaidyn Simpson, a smooth jump shot from Jon McCullough, and a fast-break layup off a steal by Marvel Chambers to narrow the gap. Defensive rebounds helped the Mounties keep the game within reach, capitalizing on turnovers to convert critical points. But Southwestern maintained the upper hand with consistent scoring, ending the half with a 30-26 lead.

The Mounties must have received an inspirational halftime talk because they came out ready to play. A pair of layups from Ryan Wheeler and Kenneth Brown quickly tied the game at 30-30. From there, Mt. SAC turned up the intensity, showcasing impressive dunks from Wheeler and Joel Gado, clutch free throws from Jaidyn Simpson, and converting several offensive rebounds into critical second-chance points.  Southwestern fought hard, with Emmanuel Barnett knocking down a three-pointer and Ayden Lockett driving to the basket while adding key free throws. Despite their efforts, the Mounties maintained control down the stretch, securing a well-earned victory.
