Walnut, Calif. – In a dominant performance, the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team cruised to a 94-58 victory over Copper Mountain on Thursday, November 7, during the Gene Victor Memorial Classic.
The game was competitive early on, with the Mounties leading by a slim margin in the opening minutes. However, after the first eight minutes, Mt. SAC quickly found their rhythm and pulled away. By halftime, the Mounties had built a commanding 47-23 lead, more than doubling the Fighting Cacti's first-half output.
In the second half, Mt. SAC continued to extend their lead, ultimately winning by 36 points. The Mounties' defense played a key role in their success, with standout performances from Ryan Wheeler and Marvel Chambers, who combined for several steals and blocks.
Offensively, Mt. SAC was sharp, shooting 35-of-60 (58.3%) from the field, compared to Copper Mountain's 18-of-58 (31%). The Mounties also dominated at the free-throw line, hitting 19-of-22 (86.4%) while the Fighting Cacti shot just 56.7%. In addition to their scoring, the Mounties controlled the boards, pulling down 42 rebounds to Copper Mountain's 30, and registering 8 blocks to the Cacti's 2.
Jaidyn Simpson led the way for the Mounties with 23 points, including 8 field goals and 7 free throws. Off the bench, Chambers was a key contributor, scoring 21 points, including 8 field goals, 1 three-pointer, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Chambers also showcased his defensive skills with six steals. Wheeler was a defensive force, recording 9 rebounds, 6 blocks, and a steal to stifle Copper Mountain's offense.
