Mission Viejo, Calif. – What began with high hopes for a return to the SCFA Championship took an unexpected turn for the Mounties on Saturday, as Saddleback's explosive offense proved too much in a 58–28 semifinal loss. The setback ends an otherwise outstanding season for Mt. SAC, which finishes 10–2 after a year filled with dominant performances and highlight-reel moments. The Bobcats now advance to the Southern California Championship on December 6 at Golden West.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saddleback struck quickly on its opening possession, taking a 7–0 lead just 13:01 into the first quarter on a 9-yard touchdown run by Darrien Campbell.
Mt. SAC answered immediately, engineering a 12-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 1-yard scoring run from Aiden Ramos to tie the game at 7–7.
The Bobcats responded with back-to-back long drives, first on a 1-yard run from Kavaughn Clark, then a 14-yard score from Campbell, pushing the Saddleback lead to 21–7 early in the second quarter.
The Mounties trimmed the deficit to 21–14 when Daunte Bell connected with Sherard "RJ" Willis for a 15-yard touchdown with 5:52 remaining in the half. Saddleback, however, seized momentum going into halftime with a one-play, 40-yard touchdown strike from quarterback Tyler Dudden to Nicholas Gentilella as the clock expired, extending the Bobcats' lead to 28–14.
Saddleback controlled the third quarter, adding three rushing touchdowns—Clark from 3 yards, Campbell from 10 yards, and Clark again on a 19-yard run—to make it 49–14 heading into the fourth.
The Bobcats opened the final quarter with a 1-yard touchdown by Leonidas Bell. On the ensuing extra-point attempt, Mt. SAC delivered one of the game's top highlights as Kanyee Childress returned the blocked kick 97 yards for two points, making it 55–16.
The Mounties continued to battle, putting together a nine-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Hunter Herrera to Jordyn Harris, narrowing the score to 55–22. A Saddleback 33-yard field goal extended the Bobcats' lead before Mt. SAC closed the game with a final drive. Herrera found Willis again—this time from 18 yards out—to bring the final score to 58–28.
