(Walnut, CA) For the second week in a row, the Mt. SAC Football team fell short in a late rally in the fourth quarter.
The Mounties, playing their second game in the new Hilmer Lodge Stadium, came from three touchdowns down but lost to Riverside City College, 28-25, Saturday, October 23 in a National Central Conference game.
Trailing 28-7 at the first half, the Mounties (3-2, 0-2) scored on two touchdown passes from Alex Flores, a field goal by Noah Carlton and a two-point conversion reception by Reginald Anderson in the second half.
The final touchdown, a 12-yard pass to wide receiver Bryce Pierre, came in the last fifteen seconds of the game.
Flores (18 for 30, Int.) led the Mounties with three TD passes and threw for 192 yards. On the ground, Nicholas Floyd rushed for 66 yards on 18 carries and Yisrael Stephens ran for 29 yards on eight carries.
Anderson (3 catches) and Trenton Finley (7 catches, touchdown) led the Mounties with 70 and 50 yards, respectively.
Trailing, 7-0, to the Tigers late in the first quarter, Jaden Allen caught a 3-yard touchdown pass, capping off a 75-yard drive for the 7-7 tie.
In the final four minutes of the half, RCC (5-2, 2-0) scored three straight touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead.
Finley caught a 12-yard pass for a touchdown, to close within 14 points, 28-14, with 7:49 left in the third quarter.
Carlton followed with a 35-yard field goal later in the quarter to trail, 28-17.
Pierre followed with the last-second TD for the Mounties.
Mt. SAC continues conference action Saturday, October 30 as they host Chaffey (0-7, 0-2). The game time is 6:00 pm.
