A sweep at COD Tournament keeps Baseball undefeated

(Palm Desert, CA) Mt. San Antonio College (5-0) remained unbeaten by sweeping its schedule at the David Buttles Memorial Tournament at College of the Desert on Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 3-5.


Mt. SAC 10 San Bernardino Valley 2

For the second time in a week, Mt. SAC defeated San Bernardino Valley College (0-3), this time in the opening round of the Buttles Memorial Tournament by the score of 10-2.

Top hitters for the Mounties included Will Bermudez (2-3, 3 R), Brent Cota (2-4, RBI, 2 R, 3B), Michael Flores (2-4, 2 RBI, R), and Cristian Enriquez (2-4, 3 RBI, R).

Starter Jeffery Isenhart (1-0) picked up the win for Mt. SAC, pitching four innings of shutout ball while striking out seven.


Mt. SAC 9 Ohlone 2

A six-run seventh inning blew open a 1-1 tie giving the Mounties a 7-1 lead they didn't surrender as they went on to defeat Ohlone College (2-2) by the score of 9-2 in the second round of the tournament.

Blake Borgogno (2-3, 2 R), Elijah Pelayo (2-4, 2 RBI, R), Nin Burns II (2-3, RBI, 2 R), and Enriquez (2-4, RBI, R) sparked the Mt. SAC offense.

Starting pitcher Michael Flores (2-0) earned the win for the Mounties, throwing six innings, allowing one run, and striking out five.


Mt. SAC 13 College of the Desert 6

Up 6-3 through three, Mt. SAC scored four runs in the fourth to take a 10-3 lead College of the Desert (2-3) was unable to overcome as the Mounties went on to win, 13-6, in the closing round of the tournament.

Pelayo (2-5, RBI, R, 3B), Burns II (2-5, RBI), Art Ruiz (2-5, RBI, 3 R, 2 2B), and Bermudez (2-5, 2 RBI) were among the top hitters for Mt. SAC.

The Mounties tallied six stolen bases by five players: Enriquez (2), Bermudez, Burns II, Travis Hobbensiefken, and Pelayo.

Reliever Hunter Holmes (1-0) picked up the win for Mt. SAC, throwing 1.2 innings in relief of starter Kyle Maier (2 IP, 2 UER, and 3 K). Holmes struck out two.

The Mounties will host Fullerton College (5-1) on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m.
