Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball Drops Final Two SCC Matches to LBCC and El Camino

(Long Beach) The tables were turned on the Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball team in the final two regular-season matches, as El Camino and host Long Beach City College defeated the Mounties by identical 4-1 scores in South Coast Conference action on Friday, April 12.

The Mounties came into the SCC finale having won 15 out of the last 16 matches, marking the second-best program streak since its inception in 2018.

Just last year, the Mounties won their final 20 matches in a row leading up to the postseason, finishing with a 23-2 record.

This season also marked their second-best overall record, with 18 wins against only four losses, totaling 41 wins in the last two years.

The top three teams in the South Coast Conference were LBCC and El Camino, tied for first with identical 8-2 records, and Mt. SAC finishing third at 7-3.

El Camino defeated Long Beach, 3-2, to force a tie in the final conference standings.

Highlighting the match against El Camino on Friday, Mt. SAC 3's Candace Ceballos/Angelina Griego swept their opponents in straight sets, 21-5, 21-17, while the 2's (Liz Ortiz/Capri Salmon) and the 5's (Eva Becerra/Freda Lei) went the distance, losing in three sets.

Against Long Beach, the lone pair winners were the 2's (Ortiz/Salmon) in three sets (21-17, 15-21, 15-11). Mt. SAC's four other pairs were swept in two sets.

Next up is the postseason, as Mt. SAC will host the South Coast Conference Pairs Championships on Friday and Saturday (April 19-20).
