(Walnut, CA) With only three South Coast Conference matches left in the regular season, the Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball team is peaking at the right time with a 9-1 record in the last 10.

The latest double wins came against visiting Rio Hondo, 4-1, and Cerritos, 5-0, Wednesday, March 27 at "Mountie Beach".

The Mounties improved to 17-2 overall and 6-1 in conference with the two wins.

Mt. SAC remains second behind Long Beach City College (5-0). The Mounties complete the regular season with a double dual against El Camino and LBCC.

In the two wins on Wednesday, the Mounties opened against Rio Hondo with the 3's (Candace Ceballos/Angelina Griego) and 5's (Eva Becerra/Freda Lei) giving Mt. SAC a 2-0 lead. That was followed by a match-deciding win by the 2's (Elizabeth Ortiz/Capri Salmon) for the 3-0 lead. All three pairs swept their opponents in two straight sets.

The team of Ortiz and Salmon have dropped only three matches all season.

"Right now, we need to win every game to be conference champs," said Salmon, after the Rio Hondo win. "Every game is important, and I think Rio Hondo is a really good team and it's so important that we get a win over them.

"I just wish I could stay here for all four years. It's such a great team, great coaching staff, and great facility."

Rio came back and won the 4's and 1's, for the final 3-2 score.

In the afternoon match against Cerritos, all five pairs swept the Falcons in two straight sets.
