Coach Mitchell is in first year with the Mounties and will work with the Defensive Line, hoping to add to the rich history of the position at Mt. SAC.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and playing experience along with his passionate coaching style that focuses on mentoring, teaching and developing a close bond with his players.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              

Prior to Mt. SAC, Mitchell worked with the defensive line at Humboldt State University before the program was discontinued.  Prior to Humboldt State, he coached with Northern California college powerhouse American River College for 5 seasons helping over 55 defensive lineman move on to the 4-year level on scholarship.  Mitchell also spent time at the high school level in Sacramento (CA) at Natomas H.S. (defensive coordinator) and  Luther Burbank H.S., where he began his coaching career.

Born and raised in Long Beach, Mitchell played 4 years of football for the powerhouse Long Beach Polytechnic (Poly)  High School (Long Beach, CA) program.  He earned first-team All-Moore League and CIF Southern Section honors and helped lead the Jackrabbits to 3 CIF Southern Section Championship Division 1 Championship Games, capturing titles in 1997 and 1999.

After graduating from Long Beach Poly with honors, he earned a division 1 football scholarship to Cal State Sacramento.  Mitchell played defensive line for the tenacious defense of Sac State and was mentored by Coach Jon Osterhout.

Mitchell earned his Bachelors Degree in Social Science from Sac State and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree at Arkansas State University in order to fulfill his dream of one day becoming an athletics director.
