In September of 2013, Athletic Director, Joe Jennum, named Kevin Smith as Mt. SAC’s new Head Baseball Coach.  Smith came to Mt. SAC via South Hills High School where he had served as Varsity Head Baseball Coach since 1999.  He is the fifth Head Baseball Coach in Mt. SAC History and also serves as an adjunct professor, while remaining a teacher at South Hills High School.

“We are extremely excited that Coach Smith has accepted the position,” replied Athletic Director Joe Jennum.  “We interviewed many well qualified individuals for this position.  In the end, Coach Smith was the perfect fit for our program.  He has the experience, education and history of producing winners on the field and in the classroom, that we were looking for.” 

Smith, the three-time San Gabriel Valley Baseball Coach of the Year (1991, 1999, 2009) has put together an impressive coaching resume which includes two CIF Championships (1982, 2009), 15 league championships and over 465 career wins as head coach.  Prior to arriving at South Hills, Smith also coached at the University of La Verne (Pitching Coach 09/96-06/98), Pomona Pitzer University (Pitching Coach 09/95-06/96), Citrus College (Pitching Coach, 09/94-05/95), Baldwin Park High School (Varsity Head Baseball Coach, 09/87/-06/96),  Sierra Vista High School (Varsity Head Baseball Coach, 09/82-06/87) and at his Alma Mater, Baldwin Park High School (Assistant Coach Varsity Baseball, 09/79-06/82).

Smith is currently the Interim Head Coach of the North Adams (MA) Steeplecats who are part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, one of the top amateur summer baseball leagues.  The league showcases top college-level players and is sanctioned by the NCAA and Major League Baseball.

Smith received his Bachelor and Master’s Degree from the University of La Verne.  He is single and resides in Azusa (CA) with his two dogs, Koufax and Drysdale.  An avid Dodgers and Broncos fan, he enjoys golfing, boating and spending time with his family and friends in his spare time.
