Walnut, Calif. – Mt. SAC’s 2025 Fall Athletes of the Year, Men’s Wrestling standout Maxximus Martinez and Women’s Volleyball libero Mayah Tiscareno, delivered unforgettable seasons that set the tone for Mountie athletics this fall. Competing in vastly different sports, both student-athletes rose to the top through hard work, consistency, and leadership, representing Mt. SAC at the highest level.
Martinez capped off one of the most dominant runs in Mt. SAC wrestling history, making him a clear choice for Fall Athlete of the Year. Wrestling at 157 pounds, he finished the season undefeated and claimed his second straight California Community College state championship, repeating the feat he first accomplished in 2024. As the Mounties’ team captain, Martinez led by example, combining elite performance with a competitive mindset that helped drive the program’s championship culture. Head coach David Rivera praised Martinez for his consistency and ability to deliver when it mattered most, especially on the postseason stage.
Martinez’s postseason performances were a showcase of control and precision under relentless pressure. In the state championship final, he dominated Cuesta’s Grant Eklund in a 13–2 win, using a combination of takedowns and near-fall points. He was equally dominant at the SoCal Regionals, highlighted by a 12–2 semifinal victory and a calm, composed 3–0 decision in the finals. His impact was felt in dual competition as well, as he played a key role in Mt. SAC’s State Dual Championship run with an 11–3 major decision over Fresno City’s Roman Gutierrez. Throughout the season, Martinez consistently earned bonus-point victories against top competition, further solidifying his place as Mt. SAC’s 2025 Fall Athlete of the Year.
On the volleyball court, Tiscareno put together an outstanding sophomore season that earned her Mt. SAC’s Female Fall Athlete of the Year honor. One of the top liberos in California community college volleyball, she was recognized as State Libero of the Year, SoCal Libero of the Year, and SCC Libero of the Year, while also being named Mt. SAC September Athlete of the Month. As the team’s defensive leader, Tiscareno brought steady energy and confidence to the back row, helping the Mounties stay competitive throughout the fall.
Tiscareno finished the season with 393 digs, averaging 4.32 digs per set, and consistently kept plays alive with her quick reactions and anticipation. She added 352 receptions, providing steady serve-receive play that allowed Mt. SAC’s offense to operate at a high level, and added 77 assists, highlighting her versatility and volleyball IQ. Beyond the numbers, Tiscareno’s poise, work ethic, and competitive drive set the standard within the program. Her combination of individual accolades, statistical excellence, and leadership make her a truly deserving recipient of Mt. SAC’s 2025 Female Fall Athlete of the Year award.
Congratulations to our 2025 Fall Athletes of the Year. Mt. SAC is incredibly proud of your accomplishments, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for both of you.
