Fresno, Calif. – After placing third at last year's 3C2A State Championship, the Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country team returned to their rightful place at the top – capturing the 2025 state title with a commanding first-place finish.

The Mounties posted an impressive team score of 50 points, well ahead of runner-up Orange Coast College (115) and third-place San Diego Mesa (149). This year's championship featured 169 athletes representing 39 schools in the 5K race.

Mt. SAC recorded a team time of 1:32:40, averaging 18:32 per runner with a tight 24-second spread among their scoring five. Their performance marked a major improvement from the SoCal Regional Championship, where they intentionally ran a controlled, tempo-style race and finished with a team time of 1:35:43. This time, going all out, they cut more than three minutes—showcasing the team's true depth, discipline, and talent.

Team captain Sophia Ebiner led the Mounties with a 9th-place overall finish, scoring 7 points in 18:19.3. Right behind was Jocelyn Izarraraz-Rodriguez, who placed 10th (8 points) in 18:23.5. Casey McConn secured 13th in 18:33.4, contributing 10 points. Rounding out the scoring runners were Kaitlyn Reyes and Aariana Amezcua, finishing 15th and 16th in 18:40.6 and 18:42.6 to add 12 and 13 points respectively.

Moorpark's Maya Natarajan captured the individual state title with a standout time of 17:40.2. San Diego Mesa teammates Jazzlyn Islas and Natalie Allen followed in second (17:51.5) and third (18:08.4).

The Mounties' title didn't come by chance—this group has trained relentlessly, pushing one another both during practice and in their own time. Their commitment, chemistry, and collective drive proved to be the foundation of their championship run.

What a way to close the season! The Mounties will return next year to the iconic Mt. SAC Cross Country Course - where the world's best athletes compete.
