Mt. SAC Women’s Cross Country Races to Third Place at 3C2A State Championship

Fresno, Calif. – The Mt. San Antonio College Women's Cross Country Team finished third at the 3C2A State Championship on Saturday, November 23, ending a three-year state title streak. The Mounties posted a team score of 130 with a total time of 1:40:06, narrowly trailing second-place Clovis Community College (125 points, 1:39:26) and first-place San Diego Mesa, who took home the title with a time of 1:38:15 and a score of 85.

With 172 runners in the race, all seven Mt. SAC athletes placed in the top 58 overall, with all scoring runners finishing within the top 48 team scoring positions, showcasing the depth of the team across the three-mile course. Paving the way for the Mounties was Ava Cornell, who crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 19:08.6. Tigist Bergman followed closely in 14th place, clocking in at 19:27.2. The team's performance continued with Kaitlyn Reyes finishing 35th at 20:20.8, and Yadira Arnold (20:34.5) and Maya Garcia (20:35.7) finishing 46thth and 48th, respectively. Jasmine Brandyberry and Denise Villarreal rounded out the team's finishers, with Brandyberry taking 53rd at 20:39.5, and Villarreal coming in 58th at 20:46.3.

Although the Mounties fell short of their goal of a fourth consecutive state title, their consistent performances throughout the season helped them maintain a spot among the state's elite. With a podium finish at the championship, the 2024 season comes to a close for Mt. SAC's women's cross country team.
