Fresno, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Wrestling Team is once again standing alone at the top of the 3C2A mountain. For the second consecutive year, the Mounties captured the 3C2A State Dual Championship, defeating longtime rival Cerritos College 29-20 in the Pool A championship final on Saturday, March 7 at Fresno City College. With the victory, Mt. SAC continues to elevate their reputation in California community college women's wrestling.
Mt. SAC def. Santa Rosa JC, 32-20
The Mounties opened the day with a strong 32-20 victory over Santa Rosa, setting the tone early in the tournament.
Mt. SAC dominated key matches with technical falls from Mackenzie Muniz (117 lbs.) and Aubrey Hernandez (160 lbs.), while Zitlali Sarmiento (131 lbs.) and Gen De Leon (180 lbs.) delivered crucial pins to build the lead. Ava Hetrick added another win for the Mounties with a decision at 207 pounds, helping secure the opening dual victory.
Mt. SAC def. Sacramento City College, 34-17
The Mounties kept the momentum rolling in the semifinals, winning eight of the 11 matches in a 34-17 victory over Sacramento City College to advance to the Pool A championship.
The wins came quickly and often for Mt. SAC, highlighted by technical falls from Sienna Montanez (103 lbs.), Caylee Reyes (110 lbs.), Bella Llamas (124 lbs.), Kylie Martinez (138 lbs.), Andrea Vidrio Majano (145 lbs.), and Aubrey Hernandez (160 lbs.). Mackenzie Muniz secured a pin at 117 pounds, while Olivia Marker added another fall at 180 pounds to send the Mounties into the final dual.
Mt. SAC def. Cerritos College, 29-20
In a championship showdown against rival Cerritos College, the Mounties delivered once again, claiming a 29-20 victory to secure the state dual title.
Mt. SAC earned technical fall victories from Sienna Montanez (103 lbs.), Mackenzie Muniz (117 lbs.), and Zitlali Sarmiento (131 lbs.), while Gen De Leon added a key pin at 207 pounds. Caylee Reyes (110 lbs.), Manaia Tofilau (145 lbs.), and Ava Hetrick (235 lbs.) each earned decisions to round out the scoring and ensure the Mounties walked away with the State Dual Championship trophy.
