
Monterey Park, Calif. – Out of 16 colleges competing at the 3C2A Women's Wrestling State Championship held at East Los Angeles College on Saturday, April 19, Mt. San Antonio College secured an impressive second-place finish with a team score of 211.5 points. Cerritos College claimed the state title with 222.0 points. Skyline College came in third with 101.5 points, followed by Sacramento City College in fourth with 81.0 points. Rounding out the top five were Delta College and Palomar College, who tied for fifth with 67.5 points each.
Mt. SAC had several standout individual performances, including five first-place finishes. At 117 lbs, freshman Mackenzie Muniz dominated the mat with a 3-0 record, defeating Fresno City College's Lailanie Vongnakhone by technical fall (10-0). Sophomore Leilani Lazaro went 4-0 at 124 lbs, securing her title with a 14-4 technical fall over East Los Angeles College's Haely Lemus. In the 131 lbs bracket, freshman Jasmine Macias pinned Cerritos College's Rontaysia Payne in just 44 seconds to win her division. Freshman Tehya Ledesma also earned a title at 138 lbs, pinning Jaylene Martinez of Cerritos in 3:37. At 145 lbs, Alexis Jimenez completed a 4-0 run with a decisive 9-1 decision over Cerritos' Samantha Pina.
In other notable finishes, Mt. SAC's Tiffany Yanagi placed third at 110 lbs, pinning Bakersfield College's Leslie De Anda in 2:05. Three Mountie wrestlers finished fourth in their respective divisions: Kendall Chapman (124 lbs), Andrea Vidrio Majano (180 lbs), and Brianna Macias (207 lbs).
At 131 lbs, Zitlali Sarmiento claimed fifth place with a win by fall over teammate Berenice Chihuahua. In sixth place finishes, Jenelle Gozun (103 lbs) and Anika Del Castillo (110 lbs) both fell by pin to their opponents. Rounding out the podium placements, Nyomi Mesa placed eighth at 160 lbs after a forfeit loss to Santa Rosa College's Lyla Kondrashoff.
Mt. SAC's second-place finish and five individual titles underscore the program's growing dominance on the state stage. As the season wraps, the Mounties sets their sights on building from this success and contending for the state title once again in 2026.
