Monterey Park, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Wrestling Team secured a first-place finish at the 2025 Leader of the Pack tournament, hosted by East Los Angeles College on Saturday, April 5. The competition featured 17 junior colleges, and the Mounties emerged on top with an impressive team score of 84.0 points. Skyline College followed in second place with 72.5 points, while San Joaquin Delta College secured third place with 58.5 points. East Los Angeles College (ELAC) earned fourth with 55.5 points, and Santa Ana College rounded out the top five with 52.5 points.

In the 103-pound weight class, Jenelle Gozun fought hard, finishing in fourth place when she was defeated by Luciana Frazao from Palomar College, who won by fall at 2:08.

At 110 pounds, Anika Del Castillo earned a respectable sixth-place finish, facing off against Kaleena Ped of Bakersfield College, who defeated her by fall in 1:58.

Zitlali Sarmiento placed second in the 131-pound category, losing 8-0 by decision to Ashlee Gutierrez from Sacramento City College. In another 131-pound bout, Mt. SAC teammates Berenice Chihuahua and Kendall Chapman squared off, with Chihuahua winning by fall in 1:33 to take third place.

Tehya Ledesma delivered an outstanding performance in the 138-pound class, clinching first place after defeating her teammate Manaia Tofilau by fall in 2:18. Alexis Jimenez also earned first place, defeating Bella Arredondo from ELAC by technical fall (13-0) in the 145-pound division.

Nyomi Mesa earned second place in the 160-pound category but was pinned by Jamie Micallef from Skyline in 0:41. Kasandra Villarreal finished sixth in the same weight class, falling to Annette Beltran from Skyline by decision (9-0).

NEXT UP:

The Mounties will compete in the 3C2A Women's Wrestling State Championship at East Los Angeles College on Saturday, April 19. Last year, the ladies took second at the tournament. Will they go all the way this year? Good luck, Mounties!
