Torrance, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo Team came out on top in a crucial South Coast Conference game on Wednesday afternoon, defeating El Camino, 12-10. With the win, the Mounties improve to 11-11 overall and 5-1 in SCC play, while the Warriors drop to 5-8 overall and 4-2 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mounties got on the board first with a goal from Angelina Hernandez, but the Warriors quickly answered to even the score. Both teams traded goals in the closing seconds of the opening period — Ivy Cervantes for Mt. SAC and Bobbie Waiolama for El Camino — sending the game into the second quarter tied, 2-2.

Mt. SAC pulled ahead in the second frame, netting four goals behind a strong offensive surge from Nathaly Mora, who tallied three in the period, and Jessica Luna, who added one. El Camino managed two goals of their own, giving the Mounties a 6-4 advantage at halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Mounties extended their lead with back-to-back goals from Audree Molenrich and Luna, but the Warriors responded with three unanswered scores to narrow the gap. Kaylee Biehn closed out the third quarter with a goal to keep Mt. SAC in front, 9-7.

In the final period, both teams found the net three times. Mora added another goal for the Mounties, while Molenrich sealed the win with two more. Lauren Reed scored twice for El Camino, and Francesca Pinillos added one to round out the Warriors' scoring.

El Camino's Carleigh Clark and Bobbie Waiolama split time in goal, combining for five saves. Keira Bozek anchored the Mounties' defense in goal, helping secure the hard-fought conference win.
