(Long Beach, CA) On Friday, November 3, the Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo team, riding a six-game winning streak, triumphed over Cerritos College with a score of 10-7 in the semifinals of the South Coast Conference Championships, held at Long Beach City College.
Earlier in the day, the Mounties received a forfeit win against Pasadena City College, setting the stage for their showdown with Cerritos in the afternoon. Their win over Cerritos propelled them into the SCC title game, scheduled for Saturday, November 4, against the host, Long Beach City College.
Mt. SAC improved their season record to 14-10 with this win.
Four players, namely Gianna Gomez, Morgan Hove, Shauna Mercado, and Salma Valle, each contributed a pair of goals for the Mounties. Jayde Gutierrez and Viviana Gil also managed to score single goals.
The game saw a competitive first period, ending in a 4-4 tie, but the Mounties gained momentum in the second period, outscoring the Falcons 4-1 and taking an 8-5 lead into halftime.
While both teams exchanged goals in the second period, the Mounties ultimately secured a 10-7 victory.
