Mounties host 24th Annual Water Polo Classic

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo team took a break from conference action and hosted the 24th Annual Classic at the Marie T. Mills Aquatics center, Friday and Saturday, September 24, 25.

Mt. SAC won one game and lost three in the eight-team classic.

Leading the way in goals in the four games was freshman 2 Meter Elizabeth Chong with five and three players – Xen Allen, Katelynn Howell and Madison Nicholas – all had four each.

Freshmen goalkeepers Kelly Jackson and Jahanna Palmer split time in goal and totaled 17 saves in the four games.

In the opening game on Friday against Santa Monica, a rare shutout occurred as the Mounties won, 21-0.

Twelve players scored for the Mounties, with Chong and freshman attacker Ariana Moran leading the way with three each.

In the second game on Friday, Mt. SAC lost to Santa Barbara City College, 11-6. They fell behind, 7-2 at the half and could only match the Vaqueros with four each in the second half.

Nicholas led the team with two goals.

In the first game on Saturday, the Mounties were held to three goals, as Fullerton won, 14-3.

Allen had a pair of goals for Mt. SAC.

The final game of the Classic for the Mounties resulted in an 8-4 loss to Cypress College.

Howell led the Mounties with two goals.

Mt. SAC (5-9) continues with South Coast Conference action Wednesday, Sept. 29 as they host Chaffey College.
