Sylmar, Calif. — All good seasons must come to an end; and this one came sooner than hoped when the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team lost to LA Mission, 3-1, in the SoCal Regional Finals on November 29. The Mounties close out a fantastic year at 22–6, while LA Mission (26–4) advances to the state championship as the South's No. 2 seed at Folsom Lake College.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LA Mission claimed sets one, three, and four with matching 25–16 scores in the first two and a 25–12 finish in the fourth. The Mounties battled hard in set two, edging out a clutch 29–27 win to tie things up early.
Unfortunately, the Eagles simply had the statistical edge. Mt. SAC posted 38 kills with 20 errors on 126 swings for a .143 hitting percentage. LA Mission countered with 54 kills and 18 errors on 120 attempts, hitting .300.
The Mounties finished with 36 assists, 4 aces, 50 digs, and 6 total blocks. The Eagles answered with 47 assists, a big 15 aces, 49 digs, and 11 total blocks.
The real difference came in the error column. Mt. SAC gave up 9 points at the service line and 13 on receive, while LA Mission didn't record a single service error and had only seven receive errors. It wasn't so much that the Eagles were unstoppable—it was more that Mt. SAC couldn't quite settle into the level of play they've shown all season.
Although Mt. SAC is still searching for its first-ever state championship appearance, this group pushed the program closer to that milestone.
