Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. San Antonio College Women's Volleyball Team continued to bulldoze their way through South Coast Conference play with a decisive 3–0 sweep (25–16, 25–15, 25–19) over Rio Hondo on Wednesday, October 29.
The victory marks the eighth straight win for the Mounties, who remain undefeated in SCC action (5–0) and improve to 17–5 overall. With one more win on Friday against East Los Angeles College, Mt. SAC can complete an undefeated month of October. Rio Hondo falls to 6–13 overall and 2–3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Rio Hondo opened the match strong, scoring the first three points of set one before the Mounties caught fire. Yaretzi Silva sparked the offense with a strong serving run, while Emma Carson delivered key kills to swing the momentum in Mt. SAC's favor. Powerful serves from Eva Fisher and solid front-row play from Tatum Hardaway and Sydney Valentine extended the lead to 11–6. Another service streak from Silva and several Rio Hondo errors helped seal the 25–16 first-set win.
Mt. SAC maintained its momentum in set two, cruising to a 25–15 victory with a dominant .320 hitting percentage compared to the Roadrunners' .034. Setter Morgan Wilson led a strong service run with five consecutive serves, while Carson stayed hot on the attack. Kayla Staveley and Kacey Worcester added timely kills to keep the Mounties in control.
The third set proved the most competitive, but Mt. SAC held firm for a 25–19 win to complete the sweep. The Mounties hit .182 in the set, while Rio Hondo managed 10 kills but also 10 errors for a .000 hitting percentage. Fisher tallied three kills in the match, including the final point that secured both the set and the victory.
