Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team has had an exciting year, and the South Coast Conference (SCC) honored their achievements for the 2024 season with several well-deserved accolades.
The Mounties earned the title of SCC North Co-Champions, sharing the honor with Pasadena City College after both teams finished with 7-1 conference records. "This was a record-breaking year with 10 Mounties being recognized with All-Conference honors in addition to earning the title of conference champions," Coach Neely proudly stated.
Outside hitter Emma Carson was named Freshman of the Year after averaging 2.1 kills and 2.3 digs per set. "Emma has made a large impact on the Mt. SAC Volleyball program in her first year," Neely said. "It has been a privilege to witness her immense growth in such a short amount of time. She has put in the necessary work to grow in skill, confidence and leadership." Carson finished the regular season with 172 kills, 22 service aces, 186 digs, and 16 blocks. "She has stepped out of her comfort zone to do what the team needed from her, and this award is a representation of that. This was a unanimous conference vote, which always makes the honor a little more special," Neely added.
Middle blockers Jordyn Romano and Itzel Aguayo, outside hitter Candace Ceballos, and setter Eva Becerra were named to the All-SCC First Team. "They are all deserving of this recognition, not only because of their statistics, but also because of the leadership they have brought to the team," Neely expressed. "All four of these sophomores are either in a captain position or have stepped up in captain-like roles, which has been crucial to the success of our overall team."
Liberos Freda Lei and Mayah Tiscareno, middle blocker Eva Fisher and opposite hitter Brianna De Jong earned All-SCC Second Team honors. "These ladies have all found their groove this season and found ways to have a positive impact on the team," Neely shared. "It is an honor for Mayah and Eva to be recognized for their efforts as freshmen, and it shows that our program has a bright future as they soon become sophomores. I am so proud of the trust and patience that Freda and Bri have shown in our program and how they have developed into the players they are today. Both sophomores worked their way up from the bench their freshman year to having significant roles on the court throughout the season."
Lastly, Head Coach Samantha Neely was named Co-Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Mike Terrill from Pasadena City College. "I am honored to receive this award. I think that any award is not an end result, but rather a recognition that we are on the right path towards our goals and aspirations, both individually as a team," Neely reflected. "I thank God every day for the opportunity to lead this program and to know each and every one of these incredible women we have on our team that are committed to growing and bettering themselves every day while being excellent teammates in the process. I would also like to thank Lauren for being a phenomenal teammate and assistant, as well as our athletic trainers, counselors, and athletic staff for being the support system that gives us these opportunities to succeed!"
The excitement continues as the Women's Volleyball Team will compete in the SoCal Regional playoffs, beginning on Saturday, November 23. Congratulations, ladies! Keep up the great work!
