Walnut – In a crosstown rivalry that transcended sports, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team secured a 3-1 victory over Pasadena City College while celebrating Student-Athlete Mental Health Week.

"Pasadena is our big conference rivalry game every year, and we know it will be a battle every time, we play them," said Coach Neely.

The Mounties went on the attack early, easily winning the first set 25-15. The Lancers fought back in the second set, but Mt. SAC narrowly claimed victory in extra points with a score of 26-24. Pasadena squeezed out a 25-23 win for the third set, but the Mounties sealed the match with a decisive 25-19 win in the fourth.

Team Captain and outside hitter Candace Ceballos led the charge with 14 kills and a .324 hitting percentage, along with 17 impressive digs that showcased her leadership on the court. Emma Carson aggressively defended the court contributing an impressive 22 digs to lead the team's defense. Middle blockers Jordyn Romano and Itzel Aguayo teamed up for 10 blocks, effectively shutting down Pasadena's attempts to bring the ball over to Mt. SAC's side and stifling their offense in the first half of the match.

With this victory, the Mounties improved their record to 12-6 overall and 2-0 in conference play. "This win gives us sole possession of first place in the South Coast Conference North as of now, so our goal is to carry that momentum forward to a conference championship," Neely said.

"Tonight, we celebrated Student-Athlete Mental Health Week to bring awareness to the importance for athletes to care for their mental health just as much as their physical health," Neely explained. "It made my heart so happy to see the student-athletes from other sports supporting the cause and cheering for our team. The energy was electric!"

Next, the Mounties will face East Los Angeles College in another conference matchup on Friday, October 11, at 4:00 PM.
