The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team secured a 3-0 victory over Glendale College on Wednesday, September 4, winning each set with scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-13.
Despite the clean sweep, Mt. SAC's performance had its share of challenges. "We are still establishing our identity as a team and finding a way to show up consistently at a high level each match," Coach Neely said. "We had a slow start in the match and struggled to establish a rhythm, making a lot of errors that were in our control. I think it was good to see the energy, confidence, and mentality shift in that third set to finish the match and earn the win."
The third set saw a particularly strong showing from Mt. SAC, highlighted by a remarkable serving run from outside hitter Candace Ceballos, which propelled the team to a 15-2 lead. Middle blockers Jordyn Romano and Eva Fisher played aggressively throughout the match and made crucial contributions with Romano recording six kills and three blocks and Fisher adding five kills and two blocks.
Notably, Kaylin Mendoza stepped up when needed with three key kills off the bench, highlighting her continued growth each week. Setters Eva Becerra and Madeline Castillo set the team up for success, combining for a total of 22 assists. Outside hitters Trinity Gonzales and Emma Carson contributed five and four kills respectively, and libero Freda Lei provided robust defensive support with eight digs.
Mt. SAC extended their impressive season record to 6-1, while Glendale continues to effort their first win at 0-4. The Mounties will compete in the Mt. SAC Tri Tournament #2 on Friday, September 6, with matches scheduled against Grossmont College at 10:00 AM and Moorpark College at 2:00 PM.
