Mt. SAC Volleyball sweeps L. A. Harbor, 3-0, in SCC action

(Walnut, CA) Winners of 10 of its last 12 matches, the Mt. SAC Volleyball team swept L.A. Harbor, 3-0, on Wednesday, November 8 in a South Coast Conference match.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 16-9 overall and 10-5 in the conference.

The 25-3, 25-9, 25-11 set sweep was the 11th of the season for the Mounties.

The Mounties, ranked No. 14 in the state, have one regular season match left at Cerritos College, on Friday (Nov. 10).

With the 3C2A (California Community College Athletic Association) playoffs on the horizon, the Mounties played inspired as they honored their five sophomores.

All active players received playing time for the Mounties, who were led by a pair of players with eight kills each – sophomores Zyra Green (.600 K %, 1 SA, 2 Digs) and Andrea Brewer (.400 K%, 1 SA, 7 D).

Sophomore middle Kyra Miller (.364 K %) added five kills and freshman Sam Parks (.364 K %) had 4 kills for the Mounties.

As a team, they connected for 38 kills (.385 K%).

Sophomore setter Capri Salmon (2 K, 5 SA, 7 D) led with 24 assists.

"I'm excited," Green said, of the teams' improvement through the season. "I feel like our growth has come from being together and being really connected outside and on the court.

In the opening set, Mt. SAC jumped out to an 11-0 start before the Seahawks won a point. They went on to the lopsided, 25-3, victory.

In the second set, the Mounties trailed early, 3-1, but an 11-3 run highlighted by four kills from sophomore Candace Ceballos (3 Ks, .429 K %, 2 D) and two kills by Green gave Mt. SAC a 12-6 lead. They finished the set with another big 13-3 run for the win and a two-set lead.

Three kills by Miller highlighted another big 10-4 lead by the Mounties, who went on to outscore the Seahawks, 15-7 for the win.
