(Walnut, CA) After enduring two grueling consecutive five-set losses, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team reclaimed their winning form with a convincing 3-0 victory over El Camino College on Wednesday, September 20th, in a South Coast Conference showdown.
The Mounties, with a season record of 6-6 and a conference record of 1-2, displayed their dominance with set scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13.
Leading the charge for the Mounties was the outstanding performance of freshman outside hitter Andrea Brewer, having a kill percentage of .381 along with 11 digs, delivering a match-high 19 kills.
In the first set, the Mounties maintained their lead throughout, establishing a six-point advantage at 22-16, courtesy of kills by Salmon and Brewer. Brewer sealed the deal with a final kill, securing a 1-0 lead.
In set No. 2, Mt. SAC never trailed and scored three consecutive points on consecutive kills by Brewer and an attack error by the Warriors for the eight-point, 21-13 lead. Green's kill and an El Camino attack error sealed the second set, giving the Mounties a 2-0 lead.
After opening with a 6-1 lead in the third and final set, the Mounties dropped a point on a service error and then won 11 consecutive points behind the serving of sophomore Leia Campbell, pushing their lead to a staggering 17-2.
The match would end on an attack error by the Warriors.
Looking ahead, Mt. SAC will return home on Friday, September 22nd, for another South Coast Conference matchup against Rio Hondo.
