(Pasadena, CA) A five-match winning streak was snapped, as the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team fell to No. 3 Pasadena City College, 3-1, Wednesday, October 20 in a South Coast Conference match.

The Mounties, ranked 10th in the state, are now 12-5 overall and slipped to fourth place in the conference with a 6-3 record.

PCC (14-1) remains atop the conference with a 9-0 record with the win.

The Mounties, who lost 23-25, 25-11, 23-25, 21-25, were led by Allison Whiteman with 13 kills, while Riley DeGroot (14 Digs) and JJ Quarrels (9 D, 2 Service Aces) had 12 and 10 kills, respectively.

Ally Euston (6 D, 3 K) led with 34 assists, and Riannel Arevalo added 19 digs.

In the opening set, with the Mounties trailing, 19-17, DeGroot had two consecutive kills to even the scores at 19-19 each.

PCC came back with two consecutive kills to lead, 21-19. From there, each team traded four points each for the first-set Lancers win.

The second set was all Mt. SAC, as the Mounties took an 11-7 lead and then scored 10 consecutive points behind the serving of Arevalo for the 21-7 lead.

Highlighting the 10-0 run by the Mounties were four kills by DeGroot.

Leading 24-11, Quarrels finished off the Lancers with a kill for the win to even the sets at 1-1.

In the crucial third set, neither team led by more than two points up until a three-point streak by the Lancers for the 19-16 lead.

The set remained close and Mt. SAC tied it at 20-20 on a service error by PCC.

Whiteman was subbed back in the match and helped keep the Mounties close with three kills. The last kill put Mt. SAC within a point of PCC, 24-23, but Lancers took the 2-1 set lead with a kill to end the set.

The fourth and deciding set seemed like an easy win for the Lancers with the early, 20-13, seven-point lead, but the Mounties mounted a comeback to trail, 23-19.

Kills by Quarrels and Whiteman and a few attack errors by the Lancers led to the late, 6-3 run by the Mounties. A kill by PCC ended the match with a four-point victory.

Mt. SAC will host Cerritos (10-6, 6-4) Friday, Oct. 22 in an SCC match.
