Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Wins Two out of Three Matches in 33rd Annual San Diego Mesa Invitational

(San Diego, CA) After a 0-2 start to the 2018 season, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball Team turned it around and has won three out of the last four matches, including two wins in the 33rd Annual San Diego Mesa Invitational, September 7-8.

The Mounties (3-3) opened the invitational on Friday and lost to Cypress 9-25, 19-25, 26-24, 21-25. On Saturday they won two matches, first sweeping Palomar, 25-19, 25-12, 25-22 and won a five-setter over College of the Canyons, 15-25, 25-15, 25-21, 24-26, 15-11.

"The team has shown great improvement this weekend," Mt. SAC Volleyball coach Ali Carey-Oliver said.

"I'm proud of the battle we put up against Cypress and Canyons and happy with the sweep of Palomar. We're looking forward to the re-match with Cypress on Wednesday (September 12) at home."

It's "Country Night" against Cypress. Match starts at 6:00 pm.

Highlighting the weekend for the Mounties was sophomore middle blocker Shaianne Palos with 15 kills (.444 K %) against Cypress and 14 kills (.263 K %) against Canyons.

"Malia Carr had an incredible weekend for us," said Carey-Oliver of the sophomore defensive specialist.

Carr had 22 digs against Cypress, 17 against Palomar and 34 against Canyons. She also had 11 assists and served seven aces in the three matches.

In the five-set marathon win over Canyons, the Mounties totaled 54 kills, 12 service aces and 93 digs.
