
(Walnut) The women's volleyball team opened up South Coast Conference play on Friday afternoon, taking on new member to the SCC, Chaffey College. The Mounties swept the Panthers, 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-23) to add to their season record of 8 wins and 1 loss.
The team was led by a strong group of Sophomores, beginning with Haley English (Chino Hills HS), who produced 10 kills and a .429 attacking percentage.
Carolina Urquieta (La Puente HS) handled the majority of the setting duties, dishing out 20 assists and adding 3 service aces.
The back row was solid for the Mounties with defensive specialist, Alexandria Peterson (Western Christian HS) logging 8 digs, followed by English with 7 and Makenzie Thieme (Corona HS) tallying 6.
"I felt the team came out and played well." Said first year Head Coach Ali Carey-Oliver. "We were consistent and I was able to utilize a lot of players. Jade Velarde-Guerrero came off the bench and sparked the team to complete the sweep."
Mt. SAC travels to Southwestern College in a non conference match up on September 28th.
