Bakersfield, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Team is right where they want to be – firmly in contention.
After the opening rounds of the 3C2A SoCal Regional Trials at Bakersfield College, the Mounties sit tied for second place with Cuyamaca at 12 points, just behind San Diego Mesa's 16. With the finals still to go, its shaping up to be a tight race to the finish.
The Mounties made their presence known on the track, especially in the sprints.
Jody Colbert Jr. continues to shine, placing second in both the 100m (11.86) and 200m (24.54), while also taking second in the 100m hurdles (14.74). Teammate Soleil Murillo wasn't far behind, grabbing third in the 100m at 11.90.
Nyrah Wyatt added to the hurdle success with a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.76) and a solid performance in the 400m hurdles, clocking 1:07.07.
The 4X100 Relay team – Colbert Jr., Murillo, Enessah Hawkins and Megan Stauffer – delivered one of the biggest moments of the day, sprinting to a first-place finish in 46.59.
In the distance events, Sophia Ebiner was outstanding, dominating the 10,000m with a first-place finish in 39.29.91 – well ahead of the competition.
Mt. SAC also showed depth in the 1500m, with Kaitlyn Reyes, Jocelyn Izarraraz-Rodriguez and Casey McConn all putting together strong runs. Kylie Unterkofler added a steady effort in the 800m, finishing in 2:21.23.
The Mounties carried that energy into the field events with multiple top finishes.
Olivia Powers led the way in the javelin, claiming first place with a throw of 127' 4", while Camryn Calderon added a third-place finish (112'). Illicia Ross cleared 5' 1" to take the top spot in the high jump.
In the pole vault, Miku Yanagawa soared to first place (11' 11.75"), with Emma Samvelian and Sofia DiMarco adding third and fourth-place finishes
Lindsey Varner put up a second-place finish in the triple jump, continuing the Mounties' balanced performance across events.
As a reminder, Mt. SAC picked up points earlier this season in the heptathlon, where Hailey Lutz placed seventh to contribute to the overall team score.
