Torrance, Calif. – The long hours and hard work are paying off as the Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Team put it all together for a well-rounded performance at the South Coast Conference Championships, securing first place with 326.5 points across 21 events.

Facing a competitive seven-team field at El Camino College, the Mounties created clear separation from the rest, with Cerritos finishing second at 208 points and Long Beach City College taking third with 115.

Rather than relying on just a few standout efforts, Mt. SAC showcased balance from top to bottom. The Mounties placed athletes in the top three in 18 of 21 events and captured 11 event titles, proving their ability to consistently produce across sprints, distance races, relays, and field events alike.

Jody Colbert Jr. delivered one of the most impressive performances of the meet, leading the charge on the track with victories in the 100 meters (12.18), 200 meters (24.85), and 100-meter hurdles (14.59). Teammates added to the momentum as Nyrah Wyatt claimed gold in the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.84) and finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.88), while Soleil Murillo secured third in the 100 meters (12.40). The 4x100 relay team of Enessah Hawkins, Murillo, Colbert Jr., and Megan Stauffer raced to a first-place finish in 47.61, highlighting the Mounties' sprint depth.

Middle-distance and distance events proved just as successful, powered by a group that already knows how to win together. Many of these runners were key pieces of the program's state championship cross country team this past fall.

The Mounties dominated the 800 meters by sweeping the top three spots, with Casey McConn leading the way in 2:15.38, followed by Kaitlyn Reyes (2:16.44) and Kyle Unterkofler (2:18.82). Jocelyn Izarraraz-Rodriguez added a win in the 1500 meters (4:57.56) and later teamed with McConn for a one-two finish in the 5,000 meters. In the steeplechase, Jessica Vigil (11:55.95) and Rebekah Cueva (12:24.34) contributed valuable points with second- and third-place finishes.

In the field, Mt. SAC continued to stack points with strong, consistent performances. Illicia Ross captured the high jump title (5' 5") and added a runner-up finish in the long jump (18' 1"), while Olivia Powers (133' 7") led a one-two finish in the javelin alongside Camryn Calderon (119' 5").

Miku Yanagawa cleared 12' 5.5" to win the pole vault, and Emma Samvelian contributed across multiple events, including a third-place finish in both the hammer (148' 10") and shot put (41' 2.5"), as well as another podium finish in the pole vault (11' 11.75"). Lindsey Verner added a second-place finish in the triple jump (37' 5.75"), and Hailey Lutz rounded out the scoring with a strong showing in the heptathlon, accumulating 3713 points.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties now turn their attention to the SoCal Regionals at Bakersfield College on May 2 and May 9. After taking the crown at last year's meet, Mt. SAC will look to carry this balanced and high-powered performance into the postseason and contend once again for the top spot.
