
Long Beach, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Track and Field Team started the season strong with total of 178 points, securing a first-place finish at the South Coast Conference Opener on Saturday, February 8. Orange Coast followed in second with 150 points, while Cerritos rounded out the top three with 135 points.
Sprints, Middle-Distance & Long Distance Highlights:
Sophomore Leila Champion sprinted to first place in the 60 meters with a time of 7.83, while freshman Enessah Hawkins claimed fourth with a time of 8.07.
In the 600 meters, Kahlai Cruser secured second place with a time of 1:45.17, and Kaitlyn Reyes followed in fifth at 1:47.63.
As for the 1500 meters, Ava Cornell and Yadira Arnold came in second and third with times of 5:06.84 and 5:08.62 respectively.
The Mounties dominated the 3000 meters, with cross country team members leading the charge. Reyes finished first at 10:49.78, Cornell took second with 10:53.68, Arnold earned third at 11:09.28, and Denise Villareal rounded out the top five with a time of 11:44.51.
Hurdles Domination:
In the 60 hurdles, Alessandra Jefferson (9.78), Alyssah Johnson (9.79), Carlota Romay Rega (10.08), and Leilani Centeno (10.26) secured second through fifth place finishes. Johnson also captured first place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.86.
Field Event Highlights:
Romay Rega soared to first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters (5'1"), while Samantha Diener claimed first in the pole vault with a height of 3.20 meters (10' 6").
In the long jump, Annah Bryce Wright earned third place with a distance of 5.06 meters (16' 7.25"), and Alessandra Jefferson secured second place in the triple jump with a mark of 10.57 meters (34' 8.25").
Throwing Events:
In the throws, Sidney Sparks placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 9.84 meters, Phoenix Raso claimed third in discus with 33.53 meters, Araxy Chivchyan earned fourth in the hammer throw with 39.43 meters, and Camryn Calderon finished second in the javelin with a mark of 32.21 meters.
With a dominant start to the season, the Mounties are set to build on their success in the competitions ahead!
