Mt. SAC wins South Coast Conference Championship; Brattain, Chavez and Dorsey win two events; Seven swimmers qualify for State

(Monterey Park, CA) Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) dominated the South Coast Conference Men's Swimming Championships, emerging as the clear victors after 16 events over three days of competition at East Los Angeles College. The team won with a total of 823 points, with Long Beach City College (589) and El Camino (447) finishing in second and third place respectively.

"It was a very solid meet all the way around," said Mt. SAC Swimming and Diving coach Chris Jackson. "It was a very long three-day grind, and the kids really rose to the occasion. They swam great and really came together as a team for a big win."

Mt. SAC qualified seven swimmers for the CCCAA State Championships, which will also be held at East Los Angeles College May 4-6. The swimmers who qualified are Madison Dorsey, Lexis Brattain, Melissa Chavez, Julia De la Garza, Laila Topinio, Parker Demaske, and Isabell Ortega.

Sophomores Brattain and Chavez led the way for Mt. SAC with two first-place finishes each in the 100 and 200 Backstroke and Breaststroke events, respectively. Dorsey also had a strong showing, winning the 200 Individual Medley and 100 Freestyle events and finishing second in the 400 IM. Topinio won the grueling 1650 Free event and finished second in the 500 Free.

Other notable placers for Mt. SAC were De la Garza (2nd in 200 IM, 3rd in 100 Butterfly), Ortega (2nd in 50 Free), and Damaske (2nd in 100 and 200 Back).

Mt. SAC also dominated in the relay events, winning all four events - 200 Free, 200 Medley, 800, and 400 Free relays.

Looking ahead to the state championships, Mt. SAC is confident in its abilities and hopes to continue its success. With strong leadership and impressive performances from the entire team, Mt. SAC is poised for another strong showing at the upcoming competition.
