(Long Beach, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Swimming team concluded its South Coast Conference dual meet season with an undefeated record, as they defeated host Long Beach City College, 157-109 on Friday (April 1).

"It is always great to finish unbeaten in dual meets at the conference level," Mt. SAC Women's Swimming coach Chris Jackson said. "Our next step is to try to end up on top of the conference championships in late April (21-23, East L.A. College) and qualify as many as we can for the CCCAA State Championships in early May (5-7, ELAC).

In front of a nice crowd, LBCC debuted its new athletic facilities, which included the new Monty Nitzkowski pool.

"They all swam great and winning by 50 was not what we had thought," added Jackson.

The Mounties won eight of the 12 individual events, including one of the two relays and were one-two in the 1-Meter Diving event.

Leading the way for Mt. SAC was sophomore Melissa Chavez with three first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke and the 200 Individual Medley. She had personal bests in both the 200 Breast and 200 IM.

Freshman Laila Topinio had personal bests in her two wins in the two long-distance races – 1000 and 500 Freestyle events and finished second in the 200 IM.

Sophomore Isabell Ortega had some great wins in the 200 Free and 100 Butterfly and placed third in the 100 Free.

The other individual first was sophomore Julia de la Garza in the 200 Fly. She also finished third in the 200 Breast.

Having consistent races with all seconds was freshman Lexis Brattain (100, 200 Back, and 50 FR) and freshman Vanessa-Nicole Lomeli (100, 200 Fly).

The Mounties opened the meet with a 1-2 in diving from Journey Barreto (169.65 Pts) and Shelby Hanss (129.60) and a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay.

The Mt. SAC swimmers also had some great point pick-ups, finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th as well.

"All in all, both meets (men and women) were really big wins for us," Jackson added. "Long Beach has a really great team this year."

Mt. SAC will travel to Riverside to compete in the Riverside City College Invitational on Friday (April 8).
