Long Beach, Calif. – It was a tough day for Mt. SAC Soccer, as the Women's Team was also eliminated in the third round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals after falling to No. 3–seeded Long Beach City College on Tuesday, November 25. With the win, the Vikings improve to 18-1-2 and advance to the SoCal Regional Finals, while the Mounties close out the season with a strong 14-4-4 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Long Beach came out hot, scoring in the fourth minute of play to put the Vikings up 1-0. But the Mounties responded late in the first half, when Eden Ramirez connected with Nadine Padilla for the equalizer in the 40th minute, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
In the second half, both teams showcased defensive excellence, with neither team able to break through, sending the game into extra time – where, again, neither defense budged.
With the game still drawn, the winner was decided by penalty kicks. Long Beach converted three shots while the Mounties were unable to find the back of the net, giving the Vikings the edge in the shootout and the ticket to the next round.
SEASON RECAP:
Over 22 matches, the Mounties put together an impressive season on both sides of the ball. Offensively, they scored 60 goals on a .769 shot percentage and averaged 3.5 goals per game.
