Walnut, Calif. – In their highest-scoring game of the season — and their final regular season matchup — the Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team took down the Compton Coyotes 8-0 on Tuesday, November 4, to claim their fourth straight South Coast Conference North Division title and the 11th in program history. With the win, the Mounties improved to 12-3-3 overall and 7-1 in SCC play. Compton wrapped up its season at 4-8-3 overall and 0-6-2 in conference competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Eden Ramirez, who's been a superstar all season, wasted no time putting the Mounties on top with back-to-back goals in the 2nd and 4th minutes, assisted by Yuliana Jimenez and Nadine Padilla. Samantha Sanchez added one in the 11th minute, and Zophia Romero closed out the first half with a goal in the 34th minute off a perfectly placed pass from Nisa Rueda, giving Mt. SAC a 4-0 lead at halftime.
The Mounties kept their momentum rolling in the second half, adding four more goals to complete the rout. Kaile Pantayatiwong scored her first goal of the season in the 50th minute off a pass from Sanchez. Jimenez then tallied two of her own — one in the 62nd minute (assisted by Emma Malana) and another in the 72nd. Valerie Lopez capped off the scoring with her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute off a setup from Maddison Shaw, sealing an 8-0 victory for Mt. SAC.
In goal, Makenna Servello, Zanette Gonzalez, and Abigail Benavides shared time between the posts, combining for a clean sheet as the Coyotes were held without a single shot on target.
NEXT UP:
The Mounties now turn their focus to the South Coast Conference Tournament, which kicks off Friday, November 7. Ranked No. 2 in the SCC, Mt. SAC has earned a first-round bye and will face the higher seed advancing from Games 1 and 2 on Monday, November 10.
