Mounties’ Seven-Game Win Streak Snapped in 2-1 Loss at Long Beach

Long Beach, Calif. – After seven wins in a row, the Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team fell to Long Beach City College 2-1 in a competitive and important South Coast Conference matchup. Both teams entered the game undefeated in SCC play, but the Vikings came out on top in the tightly contested battle.

Following this defeat, the Mounties fall to 11-3-3 overall and 6-1 in conference, while Long Beach improves to 15-1-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the SCC.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The game looked promising for the Mounties, as Samantha Sanchez scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute, to give Mt. SAC an early 1-0 lead. But the Vikings answered in the 36th minute, as Leila Rodriguez scored to tie the game at 1-1 heading into halftime.

Long Beach took the lead for good in the 79th minute when Sky Demelo converted a pass from Charlotte Grace, putting the Vikings ahead 2-1 – the score that held through the final whistle.

Long Beach outshot Mt. SAC 12-6, placing four on target, as Mt. SAC goalkeeper Zanette Gonzalez recorded two saves. The Mounties managed five shots on goal, with Vikings goalkeeper Mary Valenzuela making four saves to preserve the win.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties return home to host Compton (4-7-3, 0-5-2) on Tuesday, November 4, at 6:00 PM.
