Cypress, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team put up a good fight against one of the top teams in the state but came up just short, falling 2-1on the road to No. 2 ranked Cypress College on Wednesday, September 24. With the result, Cypress improves to 6-1 on the season, while Mt. SAC—ranked No. 18 in the latest state poll—moves to 4-2-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mounties struck first in the 35th minute, as Eden Ramirez finished a well-placed assist from Yuliana Jimenez to give Mt. SAC the early lead. However, the Chargers responded just before the break, with Luna Khazem scoring the equalizer to send the match into halftime tied at 1-1.

Cypress carried that momentum into the second half, and in the 52nd minute, Khazem found the net again—this time for the eventual game-winner.

The Mounties were active on offense in the first half, firing off eight shots, but managed just two after the break. Whether it was a dip in Mt. SAC's attacking rhythm or stronger defensive pressure from Cypress, chances were harder to come by in the second half. Cypress stayed steady, taking seven shots in both halves.

Both teams recorded six shots on goal, but Cypress goalkeeper Emily Penaloza tallied five saves, edging out Mt. SAC's Zanette Gonzalez, who finished with four saves.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties return home to face another top-ranked opponent, hosting No. 6 Chaffey College (4-2-1) on Friday, October 3 at 5:00 PM.
