The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team defeated Mt. San Jacinto College 2-0 on Friday, August 30. The Mounties showcased exceptional defensive strength and strategic play, marking a significant win against one of the South's top-scoring and highly ranked programs.
Coach Sanchez commended the teamwork, stating, "The collective team effort and determination throughout the entirety of tonight's match led to a positive result."
Defensively, the Mounties held firm for the full 90 minutes, not allowing a single shot on goal from San Jacinto College. Offensively, the women's fluency in possession led to numerous scoring opportunities.
The first breakthrough came in the 37th minute when defender Alexandra Allen intercepted a pass in the middle third and dished the ball to midfielder Alyssa Shaughnessy. Shaughnessy sent a precise forward pass between two San Jacinto defenders to forward Michelle Vazquez. Vazquez drove into the penalty box from the right side and shot across the goalkeeper into the far post as the Mounties took a 1-0 lead.
The Mounties' next goal came 10 minutes into the second half. Midfielder Kathryn Davis advanced from the left channel into the attacking third and fed forward Eden Ramirez. Ramirez maneuvered around a defender and fired a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard box, which sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net.
With 12 shots on goal compared to San Jacinto's zero, Mt. SAC demonstrated their dominance in the match.
The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Team will play Arizona Western, a Division I, two-year powerhouse, on Tuesday, September 3, at Mt SAC. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
