(Walnut, CA) Keeping its 18-game unbeaten streak intact, Mt. San Antonio College (20-1-1) defeated Long Beach City College (16-3-3) by the score of 1-0 in the third round of the California Community College Athletic Association South Region playoffs on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
This is the third time the Mounties have defeated the Vikings this season—by the score of 1-0 in a South Coast Conference crossover game on Oct. 14, and again in the conference tournament championship on penalty kicks (5-4) to settle a 0-0 tie on Nov. 11.
On Tuesday, Mt. SAC and Long Beach battled to a 0-0 tie until Fatima Arnold put the home team on the board in the 58th minute with an unassisted goal that proved to be the decisive score.
Mountie goalie Leila Peregrina held the Vikings scoreless with three saves in 90 minutes.
In the next round, Mt. SAC will hit the road to face top-seed Chaffey College (20-0-2) on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. The Panthers are ranked No. 1 in the most recent California Community College Sports Information Association poll, and the Mounties are ranked No. 4.
The winner will earn a spot in the CCCAA State Championships which will take place on Dec. 2 and Dec. 4 at American River College in Sacramento.
