Mt. SAC Women's Soccer wins 16th straight with SCC Tourney semifinal win over Rio Hondo

(Walnut, CA) Following a first-round bye and a weather-related postponement, North Division-winner and top-seed Mt. San Antonio College (18-1, 9-0) opened its South Coast Conference Tournament participation with a 1-0 semifinal win over visiting and fifth-seed Rio Hondo College (6-8-4, 3-3-3) on Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Kaylee Gutierrez found the back of the net in the 59th minute on an unassisted goal that proved to be the decisive score for the Mounties.

In 90 minutes, goalie Leila Peregrina kept the Roadrunners scoreless with one save.

Mt. SAC will play for the SCC title against second-seed and South Division-winner Long Beach City College (15-2-2, 8-1) at El Camino College on Friday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. The teams faced each other in an SCC crossover game on Oct. 14 that the Mounties won, 1-0.

Mt. SAC is ranked No. 4 in the state in the current California Community College Sports Information Association poll and the Vikings are ranked No. 7.
