(Kansas City, MO) Mt. SAC Sophomore Defender Frida Monsalvo (Wilson H.S.|Hacienda Heights, CA) was named the 2021 United Soccer Coaches Women's Junior College National Scholar Player of the Year. She becomes the first Mountie ever to win the prestigious honor. Monsalvo excelled in the classroom with a 3.84 GPA and on the field, where she led the Mounties (16-3-6) to their first state championship tournament appearance in nearly a quarter century.
"This is an incredible honor for Frida and we are extremely proud of her," replied Associate Director of Athletics, Tammy Knott-Silva. "She is Mt. SAC's model student-athlete."
Monsalvo received the prestigious award during the 2022 United Soccer Coaches Convention All-American Ceremony and Reception, which was held in Kansas City (MO). This season Monsalvo, was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Junior College DIII All-American Second Team, United Soccer Coaches Junior College DIII West Region First Team and was crowned 2021 South Coast Conference Northern Division Player of the Year.
The Mountie Women's Soccer Program has been steadily improving on the field, but more importantly, in the classroom. During the 2019-20 season, the team was named a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award Recipient with a cummulative team overall G.P.A. of over 3.0.
