(Walnut, CA) Interim Mt. SAC Women's Soccer Head Coach Juan Sanchez's debut was an overwhelming, 4-0, victory over visiting College of the Desert, on Tuesday night.

The Mounties used a balanced offensive attack with four players scoring, three of which occured before the half.   "The  sophomores set the table for the three goals scored by freshman," Sanchez said.

"I'm very proud of the players because they all worked hard, played as a team and executed the game plan. It was a great team effort!!!"

The Mounties took a quick, 2-0, lead in the first nine minutes.

A well placed throw in from forward Alyssa Gomez set up a goal by freshman Alyssa Williams for an early 1-0 lead, in the 6th minute.

That was followed up in the ninth minute with a goal by sophomore midfielder Liani Sanchez who was set up by a Williams cross pass.

In the 32nd minute, freshman forward Jacquelynn Coronado gave the Mounties an insurmountable, 3-0, lead.  "That was a great through ball from (freshman forward) Pamela Huaman to Jackie for a left footed finish," Sanchez added.

The goal-fest was completed in the 88th minute when sophomore defender Taylor Moose crossed the ball to sophomore midfielder Hannah Grady, who headed the ball into the Desert goalkeeper.  Luckily freshman midfielder Emily Hernandez was right there, knocking the ball loose and scoring.

"Not in my wildest dreams did I think I would be coaching women's soccer at Mt. SAC," reflected Sanchez the next day. "I was very nervous, like a men's final four game, but felt we were very prepared."

The Mounties will travel on Friday (Aug. 30), to Fullerton College, for their next contest. Game time is 3:00 pm.
