Rachel Schmid Graphic - Schmid Named New Women's Soccer Co-Head Coach

(Walnut, CA) Rachel Schmid becomes the newest addition to the Mt. SAC Women’s Soccer Staff and will serve alongside Juan Sanchez as co-head coach of the program.  Schmid currently serves with the L.A. Galaxy Girls Academy, as head coach of the U19’s (2019-2020 season) and as the academies sports performance coach.

“I am excited about adding the services of Rachel Schmid to our women’s soccer program,” replied Mt. SAC Director of Athletics, Joe Jennum.  “Her knowledge and insight of women’s soccer will be a great compliment and addition to the program.”

Last season the team knocked off undefeated and top seed Cypress in the first round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regionals before a heart breaking double overtime loss in the second round to San Bernardino Valley.  This was the furthest the team had reached (in the playoffs) in 12 years (2008).

“Rachel comes with an incredible soccer background and experience to match,” replied Co-Head Coach Juan Sanchez.  “I look forward to working with her to continue building the program.”

Prior to joining the L.A. Galaxy Staff, Schmid also served as an assistant coach with various soccer programs including her Alma Mater U.C. Irvine, Fullerton College, Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club and Marymount California University.  She has also coached at U.S. Soccer Federation Camps and has served as a sports performance coach with Velocity Sports Performance and her company Schmid Akadmie (formerly S3P).

Schmid currently holds a United States Soccer Federation National “C” License and is a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Schmid was an outstanding soccer player at defender position.  In high school she led Mission Viejo High School to a CIF SS Championship in 2002 and then continued her career, captaining the Anteaters of U.C. Irvine (’05-‘08).  She finished her career playing professionally for the Los Angeles Strikers FC in the W-League from 2011 to 2013.

She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from U.C. Irvine and her Master of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton.
