Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Wrestling Team closed out their conference season the only way they know how - by steamrolling Rio Hondo 46-3 to capture the SCWA Southwest Conference Championship. The victory capped an undefeated conference run, with the Mounties taking down Cerritos, Santa Ana, Palomar, and Imperial Valley on their path to the title.
The dual started with a bang at 125 lbs., where Manuel Martir set the tone early, pinning Mason Barros-Santiago in 3:55 to fire up the Mounties. Rio Hondo's lone highlight came at 133 lbs., when Edmon Alunyan edged out Rylan Madrid in a tight 6-5 decision, putting three points on the board for the Roadrunners.
From there, it was all Mt. SAC. Jason Saenz (141 lbs.) stormed back with a technical fall in 4:46 over Ethan Gonzalez, regaining momentum and putting the Mounties on track for the rest of the dual. At 149 lbs., Michael Williams dominated from start to finish, cruising to an 8-0 major decision and adding four more points to the Mounties' total.
Continuing the onslaught, Maxximus Martinez (157 lbs.), one of Mt. SAC's most consistent finishers this season, stuck Adam Duong in just 2:21. Veysel Pekince (165 lbs.) followed with a powerful 13-3 major decision over Larry Cruz, extending Mt. SAC's lead even further.
In an action-packed 174 lbs. bout, Wendell Mitchell battled through a high-scoring thriller to defeat Turner Yanagisawa, 21-19, sealing yet another victory for the Mounties.
The final three weight classes—184 lbs. (Mitchell Semaan), 197 lbs. (Cody South), and Heavyweight (Malohi Sipowicz)—were all awarded by Rio Hondo forfeits, giving Mt. SAC a clean sweep down the stretch and locking in the 46-3 final score.

The Mounties now set their sights on the Bill Musick Memorial Tournament, hosted by Fresno City College. The meet will serve as a key preview before Mt. SAC and the Rams clash again later this month for the 3C2A State Dual Championships—where the Mounties will look to keep their momentum rolling toward a third consecutive state title.
