Mounties Wrestling Finishes Third at SoCal Championships

(Santa Ana, CA) With 168 points, the Mt. SAC Wrestling Team finished third at the Southern California Regional Championships, which were held at Santa Ana College, on Saturday, Dec. 7. The Mounties qualified 9 wrestlers to the state championships, with a chance of advancing three 3 alternates. Cerritos College finished first with 216.5 points, while Bakersfield College came in second with 188.5 points.

Individually, second-place finishes by Conner Diamond (125 pounds), Wetzel Hill (165 pounds) and Kevin Hope (174 pounds) helped boost the Mounties' team points. Colby Huynh (197 pounds) took third in his weight class, while teammates Oscar Chirino (141 pounds) and Ian Vasquez (157 pounds) placed fourth at their respective weight class. 

Kevin Ayala took fifth at 174 pounds.  Rounding out the nine Mounties headed to the state championships is Melad Ayyoub (184 pounds) and Jackson Clark (285 pounds) who both took sixth in their weight class

The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships will be held at Fresno City College on Friday and Saturday, December 13th through 14th.
