Fullerton, Calif. – Peaking at just the right time, the Mt. SAC Women's Golf Team came out on top in round one of the Orange Empire Conference Finals with a total team score of 319 on Monday, October 27.
After trailing Orange Coast College (OCC) for much of the season, the Mounties started heating up in their final regular season contest on October 15, finishing just one stroke behind the Pirates. This week, they completed the comeback—topping OCC by three strokes. The Pirates finished second with 322, while host Fullerton College took third with 416.
It was another standout performance from Kaitlyn Wang, who set the pace for the Mounties and the entire field with a 75 (+8). Right behind her was Cuyamaca's Emma Rahn at 78, while Kyrie Padero continued Mt. SAC's momentum, tying OCC's Sophie Thibodeau for third with a 79.
The Mounties' depth continued to shine with Leah Garcia and Lauren Grant-Timassy finishing back-to-back in eighth and ninth place with rounds of 82 and 83. Evangeline carded a 94 to tie for 13th, and Abigail Price rounded out Mt. SAC's lineup in 16th with a 95.
Wang remains the OEC's top individual, holding a seven-stroke lead with a total of 453, while OCC's Sophie Thibodeau sits in second at 460. The rankings reflect each player's five best rounds from six conference outings.
In the overall team standings, Orange Coast holds a 23-1 record, while Mt. SAC sits solidly in second at 19-5. Fullerton (10-14), Cuyamaca (4-20), and College of the Desert (0-24) round out the conference standings.
