Mounties Finish Strong in State Preview Tournament

Solvang, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Golf Team secured a strong fourth-place finish out of 12 teams at the North/South Invitational, held October 12–13 in Solvang, California. The Mounties posted a team total of 685 over the two-day event, which served as the 3C2A Women's Golf State Preview — a midseason look at how teams are shaping up heading into the second half of the season.

Reedley College took first place with a score of 667, followed by Orange Coast with 674. Modesto finished just ahead of Mt. SAC in third place with 677. The event featured top teams from across the state and provided a competitive preview of potential postseason matchups.

Leading the way for Mt. SAC was Kaitlyn Wang, who finished fifth overall out of 67 individual competitors. Wang carded a 78 in the first round and an 81 in the second, finishing with a two-day total of 159. The individual winner was Sahya Kitabatake from College of the Canyons, who shot 76 and 71 for a tournament-best 147, finishing three-over par.

Mt. SAC's Kyrie Padero also had a solid showing, finishing 13th overall with scores of 87 and 81 for a 168 total. Lauren Grant-Timassy placed 21st with rounds of 88 and 91 for a 179. Leah Garcia followed closely behind in 24th place with rounds of 92 and 89 for a 181. Abigail Price contributed with rounds of 103 and 89, placing 33rd with a total score of 192. Evangeline Rodriguez rounded out the lineup, finishing 45th overall with rounds of 104 and 96 for a total of 200.

Coach Guevara expressed encouragement about the team's performance, noting that the players are beginning to find their rhythm. "The ladies are starting to play better, and we hope to finish even stronger in the next few weeks as competition tightens," he said.

Next, the Mounties will head to Dad Miller Golf Course in Anaheim for a match hosted by Fullerton College on Wednesday, October 15.
